Travel Tips: Getting to Culebra
Your Arrival:
You should plan on meeting us in town at Mamacita's between 6 and 8 PM on the evening before your cruise departure date. We will greet you by skiff at the friendly outdoor lounge and take your luggage to the boat anchored in the harbor, while you have dinner in town. After dinner we'll take a nature tour of the nearby mangroves to see local birds, reptiles & fishing bats.
Then we'll take you to the Wanderbird, introduce you to your ship shape cabin & new shipmates for the week. You may stay aboard the WANDERBIRD, as our guest the night before your cruise departs. The first meal we serve aboard will be breakfast on the morning of departure. We will serve cold drinks, tea & coffee that evening and you may want to explore the Spanish community, and pick up any last minute items.
You are welcome to bring along beer, wine, soda, bottled water or other items that are not available for purchase while on board.
Travel To and From Culebra:
Culebra is accessible from San Juan, Puerto Rico, by air or sea:
By Air:
You can fly to Culebra from San Juan (Approximately 30 minutes) on one of the local airlines.
By Sea:
Fly to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Leave San Juan Int'l Airport by taxi to Fajardo. Fajardo is about 40 miles SE of San Juan. Take the ferry to Culebra where the Wanderbird will be waiting for you. Cargo ferry (2 hours) & Passenger ferry (45-75 minutes).
Note:
Please be patient when calling Island phone numbers as the offices are often only open for a few hours each day. Everyone is on ‘island time’ & after all - isn’t that why we love it here?
